Dear Jorge and partners,

Congrats for your presentation, it is a very inspiring approach.

A key challenge in development lies in how we perceive "others," particularly countries deemed "undeveloped" or "in development." For sure, what we consider most relevant in life may differ greatly from the perspectives held in other societies.
The rise of digitalization adds to these challenges. The internet has made information and knowledge more accessible, which is great for development, but not everyone has the resources to fully benefit from it. This gap shows the need for more thoughtful approaches that respect different cultures and deal with the unequal access to opportunities.

Thank you.

Thank you, Gema, for your kind comments and deep thoughts. I couldn't agree more. Development should be about respecting healthy aspects of cultures - or shouldn't be.

Thanks. Best wishes,
Jorge

Hello Jorge, first of all I would like to congratulate you on your presentation, which is a beautiful but complex subject. And as you rightly point out, relating poverty and development to economic aspects alone is not realistic for defining a poor. There are other dimensions to poverty, such as the absence of human rights, freedom and justice, which make up a package of social development, including, of course, the preservation of the environment. What you mentioned about the peoples, the traditions of Peru, Kenya and the Ubuntu tradition, which is typically African, is not really about poverty, it's about culture. Poverty has several levels, extreme lack of basic resources to survive, moderate poverty where the basics are covered but it doesn't allow you to move on to other needs and relative poverty which is very subjective. I understand that the definition of poverty indicators is measured through a westernised concept (GDP; HDI etc) but in this globalised world we see that the question of culture, ethics and moral values as you explain is unfortunately absorbed by capitalism. I think that the need to get out of poverty does involve connecting with the outside world, developing digital technology so that the most disadvantaged can communicate quickly is crucial for them to be able to produce more and in less time to. The development of digitalisation will only be effective when it respects the moral values, culture and will of the people to adhere to it.

I'd like to refer to this sentence above: poverty indicators is measured through a westernised concept (PIB and IDHL)

PIB- Gross Domestic Product
IDHL- Local human development index
