Thank you so much for your comment Roser. The role of digital arena in the continent has been controversial, despite the fact that initially was a considered a game changer to improve democracy and transparency. My research is focused on this “bad side” of the use of media related to misinformation and disinformation, but it’s true that there’s also a chance for a responsible use of internet to improve peace and dialogue. A recent research from May 2024 shows how the digital dimension is really helpful to promote online peacebuilding, especially focused on the use of social media and apps. In this sense, is remarkable to local dynamic as a key trend in Africa, which means that there’s a better used of social media on lower decision echelons. The author remarks the challenges posed by some regimes regarding the online repression and censorship, but there’s still space to improve life-conditions and promote democratic values based on peace and understanding.
